Count Sounds

Objective

In this game, the children practise connecting a number of sounds to quantity and movement.

Instructions

  1. Place the laminated sheets of paper around the room. For instance, they can be placed on or under the tables. Vary the trail.
  2. The children run around freely until the leader shouts “Stop.” All the children then ‘freeze and the leader claps their hands one, two, three, four, five or six times. If the children hear two claps, they must find the sheet of paper with the number two, etc.

Tips

  • It might be a good idea to have several sheets of paper with the same quantity/volume, so all the children do not have to run to the same sheet.

Variation

  • A variation of the game is to roll a die. The children’s task is then to run to the number corresponding to the same quantity the dots on the die show.
